Above and Beyond: Your Gateway to Dreams, Visions and Spiritual Illumination

Journaling Your Dreams

Journaling your dreams is vital to understanding them. When you are faithful and value that which God has given you, you will be given more and more clarity will come. This is a spiritual principle. The ancient Hebraic scrolls reveal this spiritual principle in several places: Matthew 13:12 ‘For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him’; Mark 4:25 ‘For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him’; Luke 8:18 ‘Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.’; Luke 19:26 ‘For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him’. The spiritual principle is that if God can’t trust you with little, He won’t give you more. On the other hand, if you are diligent with what you have, God will increase it.

Ancient writings reveal that even Daniel wrote down his dreams. Look in Daniel 7:1 "In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts." (Emphasis added)

Something supernatural happens when we take even an abstract thought and commit it to paper. It’s as though that action brings the thought into reality and it becomes physical matter that can now be acted upon. We see that power over and over for those who write down their goals. Studies have shown the significance of simply writing it down. You may refer to a Harvard Business School study of those that wrote down their goals and those that didn't. There was a study conducted on students in the 1979 Harvard MBA program.  In that year, the students were asked if they had set clear, written goals for their future and made plans to accomplish them. Only three percent had written goals and plans. 13 percent had goals, but not in writing and 84 percent had no goals at all.  Please remember the emphasis on those that WROTE IT DOWN...only 3 percent. Ten years later they were interviewed again. The findings are amazing.  The 13 percent who had goals were, on average, earning twice as much as the 84 percents who had no goals at all. What's more astounding is that the 3 percent who WROTE DOWN their goals were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent COMBINED!!!

God commanded his people to keep records of many things. When He reveals something, it is to be valued and treated with honor. Look in Habakkuk 2:2-3 ‘Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. 3)For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, it will not tarry." Some of our dreams are directly from God and we have a responsibility to make some of them known to others...they are warnings or encouragements. Others are not from God, but writing them down will help us to begin to sort through symbolic speech, which will help us understand how God speaks in everything.
